Kirsters Baish| Earlier this year a British man was sent to live out the rest of his life in prison after being convicted for beating his 2-day-old to death. On Sunday morning he was found beaten to death in his jail cell. He was murdered by a fellow prisoner.
22-year old Liam Deane was murdered by fellow prisoner, 28-year-old John Westland. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Westland was charged after the fact and stood in front of the court for his initial hearing on Tuesday.
Details about how the murder occurred and why it was committed have not yet been released to the public, however we are aware that Deane was sentenced to life in prison back in October after being convicted of the brutal crime of murdering his own infant daughter, Luna.
The U.K. Sun reported on the murder of the young child. They wrote “Baby Luna was only two days old when she left in the arms of her father while her mum went to get some sleep. Deane lost his temper during the night.”
It was reported that the enraged man punched the baby in the face. He squeezed her body and reportedly shook her like a rag doll so hard hat he caused internal injuries in her brain, body, and face.
When Luna’s mother awoke, Deane had claimed that their daughter had fallen down and hit her head and wasn’t able to breathe properly. The mother immediately called for an ambulance, but it was too late. The baby was too far gone.
The Sun reported, “Paramedics arrived and noticed her face was badly swollen and bruised. Luna was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she died in intensive care on July 14, three days after the attack.”
Doctors made the conclusion that the newborn died after suffering from severe head trauma. She was left with “catastrophic brain injuries.”
Luna’s mother spoke in front of the court. When she made her statement, she explained, “Seeing Luna on life support in the hospital will last with me forever. I can’t describe how that felt. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy.”
Richard Wright, Liam Deane’s own attorney, was not even able to hide his own feelings on the case. He was clearly disgusted.
He spoke in front of the court saying, “In my submission there is simply no explanation for the defendant’s behavior. His actions were wholly and utterly out of character for him. The defendant will have a very long time to reflect upon his terrible behavior.”
It was not definite, however, that Deane would spend the rest of his life behind bars. He was sentenced to life, but there was a chance he could get out after only 10 years. He would have been eligible for parole after those 10 years. But, things took a turn when another inmate decided that Deane didn’t deserve to live.
Detective Superintendent Jim Dunkerley spoke during the time of Deane’s sentencing last month, and he spoke about the horrific nature of the crime that occurred and just how this poor baby died.
He stated, “This was an extremely tragic case where a newborn baby girl has lost her life before its even had chance to begin.”
Dunkerley went on to say, “Luna suffered an assault at the hands of one of the people who was responsible for her care and wellbeing. Her family has been torn apart by her death.”
